VP of Operations

A full-time hybrid role in Cambridge, UK

We’re looking for an experienced and strategic VP of Operations to lead and evolve a growing Operations function, spanning multiple disciplines including Compliance, Executive Support, Facilities, Finance, IT, and Legal.

As VP of Operations, you’ll work closely with the COO and functional managers to define and execute operational strategy, drive alignment across teams, and deliver efficient, scalable processes. You’ll play a critical part in strengthening cross-functional collaboration, enabling high performance, and ensuring the business is well-positioned to meet its long-term goals.

What’s the opportunity for VP of Operations at Gearset?

  • Lead a diverse Operations organisation of 18 people across 6 functions: Compliance, Executive Assistants, Facilities, Finance, IT, and Legal
  • Work closely with the COO to shape and execute the Operations roadmap aligned with company goals
  • Prioritise high-impact initiatives and balance strategic transformation with day-to-day operational execution
  • Build and reinforce a culture of autonomy, ownership, and purpose within the Operations team
  • Act as an escalation point and executive sponsor for key cross-functional projects
  • Enhance existing processes while introducing scalable, lightweight structures that support growth
  • Apply a project management lens to drive alignment, execution, and results across the business
  • Play a highly visible role in shaping Gearset’s future success by driving operational excellence at scale

What you’ll achieve

  • Lead the development and execution of a focused, high-impact Operations strategy in partnership with the COO
  • Scale operational processes to support company growth while preserving agility and avoiding unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Empower and grow a high-performing team by instilling a culture of autonomy, mastery, and purpose
  • Act as a coach and mentor, promoting continuous improvement and helping the team balance risk mitigation with pace and adaptability
  • Build deep domain expertise and provide escalation support and tactical guidance across Operations
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives with strong project management and stakeholder alignment, ensuring effective delivery of business outcomes
  • Strengthen collaboration between Operations, Marketing, and Sales to enhance our go-to-market and customer support efforts

About you

  • Proven experience in senior Operations leadership within a B2B SaaS or tech environment
  • Deep expertise in building and leading cross-functional operational teams with high execution standards
  • Demonstrated success scaling operational capabilities from start-up to scale-up
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to problem-solving
  • Able to make smart trade-offs and lead decisively, even with incomplete information

Great to haves

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, HIPAA, SOC2) and data protection laws (e.g. GDPR, CCPA)
  • Experience with budgeting, financial modelling, or negotiating customer contracts in a SaaS context

  • Salary is negotiable (depending on experience)
  • This is a full time opportunity, working Monday to Friday with the option of flexible home working (for most of us that looks like 2-3 days a week in the office)
