People Partner

A full-time hybrid role in Cambridge, United Kingdom

Gearset’s growing fast! As we scale it’s never been so important to develop our teams and people so they’re able to grow and develop the skills needed to meet the challenges of today and in the years ahead. We’re looking for a People Partner to join our people team, to support the business as we scale; to make sure that as we grow, we’re developing our managers with the right level of training, guidance and support to enable their team to do truly great work and that we’re building up organisational capabilities which will lead to the long term success of Gearset.

What's the opportunity?

As a People Partner, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how we support our line managers and develop our teams. As their trusted partner, you'll be their sounding board, and coach, to help develop their leadership skills and equip them with the tools they need to lead and develop their teams.

This will be a hands-on, varied role, from very operational to managing more longer term, large-scale projects, where you’ll bring expertise to develop solutions. It’ll include everything from developing and delivering tactical training and coaching, through to delivering pragmatic solutions to fast moving people topics. You’ll work across all aspects across the employee lifecycle, and will be driven by the needs of the business as we continue to grow in the UK and US. Working closely with the business, you’ll help ensure Gearset remains a place where our teams are highly engaged, have the best experiences and our values are felt every day.

The successful person will be someone who understands the importance of and is comfortable working on principles not policies. Someone who can challenge and identify simple solutions, with the ability to see the bigger picture. Someone capable and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast moving environment, who’s excellent at building relationships and influencing others. Someone who’ll take ownership and be proactive in identifying what needs to be done and be able to collaboratively work with others to deliver this.

As a People Partner at Gearset, you'll:

  • Understand our values and the guiding principles and apply these every day
  • Embed yourself across different areas of the business to understand goals and how the people team can support the delivery of these
  • Partner closely with our people managers - providing coaching, advice and tactical support to help them grow and develop their people
  • Provide advice on organisational design, to ensure we’re taking sensible steps to  optimizing our team structures as we grow Gearset
  • Work to develop our future leaders and proactively identify opportunities to stretch and grow our people into specialist roles
  • Contribute to our focus on creating a consistent people experience across Gearset - to ensure we keep breaking silos
  • Together with our managers, ensure we onboard our new hires in a way which instills our values as quickly as possible

What we're looking for:

  • Be experienced working in a People Partner/HRBP role/HR advisory role
  • Have worked in a rapidly growing organisation or start- up environment
  • Have worked in a SaaS or tech company previously, or have experience of partnering with technical teams
  • Be an excellent coach and able to deliver training on people topics/skills
  • Not look to policies to guide us through our next phase of growth, but rather can treat each situation on merit and navigate it based on core principles
  • Be willing to get involved in the operational creation, execution and delivery of people initiatives and activities, as well as supporting the design and formulation of them
  • Have excellent communication skills and able to flex your style to work effectively with different people
  • A real team player - willing to turn your hand to what is needed to get the job done
  • Ideally be Level 7 or above CIPD qualified

Salary, benefits, and hours:

  • Salary is £50k-£65k, depending on experience
  • This is a full time opportunity, working Monday to Friday
  • Flexible working - your time will be split between working from home and the office with ideally 2 or 3 days per week in the office
  • Personal L&D budget of up to £1500 per year
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company Pension Plan (matching up to 5%)
  • Bupa health care
  • Life Insurance & Critical Illness cover
  • Flexible working hours
  • Free lunch in the office
  • Health and wellness benefits
